OGDENSBURG -- Close to 500 people packed the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center Thursday to take part in State Sen. Patty Ritchie’s, R-Heuvelton, St. Lawrence County Senior Health and Wellness Fair.
Seniors in attendance were able to access health screenings, flu shots and free tips for staying healthy and active from more than 60 local organizations.
The day also featured a no-cost lunch prepared by local culinary students and music provided by the Starlighters and the Ogdensburg Free Academy Band.
During the event, Sen. Ritchie honored Nancy Skelly of Ogdenburg and John Halford of Gouverneur—a WWII veteran—with her St. Lawrence County “Senior of the Year” award for their volunteerism and contributions to their communities.
“I’m thrilled that so many seniors were able to attend this year’s event,” said Senator Ritchie. “It was great to see all of the seniors get together, socialize, listen to some nice music and have the opportunity to get some valuable information on ways to stay healthy and maintain active lifestyles.”
Last week, more than 500 people attended Senator Ritchie’s Oswego County Senior Health and Wellness Fair. She will host one more fair this year, in Jefferson County on October 19.
