HAMMOND -- Hammond Reality Check students met recently to do a cigarette butt cleanup throughout their town.
Dawson Simons, Jessica Brown, Alexus Sawyer, Dana Burns and Hannah Preston gathered after school at the bi-weekly reality check meeting and collected cigarette butts for an hour and a half, in honor of the National Tobacco Holiday, World No Tobacco Day.
World No Tobacco Day highlights how tobacco negatively affects ones health, currently leading to nearly 6 million deaths each year worldwide. These students collected over 5.5 jars of cigarette butts by walking the main road in the town of Hammond.
