Reachout of St. Lawrence County seeks bright, caring people to volunteer as crisis counselors for its 24-hour crisis intervention, information and referral hotline.
Applications are being accepted through Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m.
Applicants must be 18 or older, have reliable transportation to Reachout’s Potsdam office, have at least five hours a week to volunteer, be willing to commit to one year of service, and attend a training weekend the evening of Friday, Feb. 7 through Sunday afternoon, Feb. 9.
Crisis counseling experience is not required.
Reachout’s volunteers strive for warmth, empathy, open-mindedness and respect as the agency handles 30,000 phone calls a year seeking help on topics including mental health, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and basic needs.
Reachout has an ongoing need for community volunteers.
