CANTON – A ‘Nobody is Above the Law’ rally will be held in Canton at 5 p.m. today (Nov. 8) in conjunction with a nationwide protest concerning the on going investigation by Special Council Robert Mueller.
The nationwide movement was prompted by President Donald Trump’s decision to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Sessions’ chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker, as acting attorney general.
Out of concern for the integrity of the Mueller investigation, MoveOn.org has organized a nationwide protest that would be launched if a "red line" was crossed by the Trump administration that might impede the investigation, organizer Ginger Storey-Welch said in a press release.
“Due to the forced resignation of Sessions and the installation of Whitaker, who has made multiple statements in opposition to the investigation, this protest is being launched with over 900 events scheduled across the nation, including here in Canton,” she said.
The rally will be at 5 p.m. at the corner of Park and Main streets by the park.
“We are calling for Whitaker to recuse himself and for him to not be allowed to oversee the investigation because of his past record in opposition to the investigation,” she said.
