Rainy, warm early week to give way to fall temperatures, sun in Massena, O'burg, Canton, Potsdam, Gouverneur

A wet and warm early week will give way to seasonal temperatures and sun, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists say there is a 30 to 40 percent chance of showers through Monday night, with temperatures peeking in the daylight hours around 72 degrees and falling to about 64 later on.

Tuesday brings 80 to 90 percent odds of precipitation in all St. Lawrence County communities, the NWS says, with thermometers reading around 73 degrees.

Tuesday night is expected to begin with an 80 percent chance of rain, possibly falling to as low as 40 or 50 percent later on. Temperatures are predicted around 50 degrees.

Wednesday is expected to bring a mostly cloudy day to Massena, Ogdensburg, Potsdam and Canton. Gouverneur could see a 30 percent chance of rain early on. Star Lake is looking at 30 percent odds of precipitation through the daylight hours, the NWS says.

Temperatures are predicted around 60 degrees.

A partly cloudy Thursday night with temperatures in the low 40s is expected to bring a mostly sunny Thursday with thermometers reading around 58 degrees, forecasters say.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

This afternoon - A 30 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Southwest wind 14 to 16 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Monday night - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. South wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday - Showers likely, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. High near 75. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday night - Occasional showers, mainly before midnight. Low around 52. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday - Mostly cloudy, with a high near 61. Northeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Wednesday night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. Northeast wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Thursday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Northeast wind around 14 mph.

Thursday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42. Northeast wind around 10 mph.

Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Northeast wind 10 to 13 mph.
