Heavy rain and thunderstorms possible today and tonight in St. Lawrence County

Rain, possibly heavy at times, along with a chance of thunderstorms is in the forecast for today and tonight throughout St. Lawrence County before clearing and moderate temperatures move in.

The National Weather Service says a surface front will produce occasional showers and an outside chance of a few thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight across the North Country. Some fog could develop overnight. A south wind will be moving at about 15 mph today, dropping off tonight.

Sunny skies will prevail Wednesday after the chance of a morning shower. The forecast calls for clear skies through Sunday, with highs rising from the 70s to the 80s by the weekend, and overnight lows will range from the upper 40s to the mid 50s.

The forecast for the St. Lawrence valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: Showers likely, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. High near 74. South wind between 14 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 9pm, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before 3am. Low around 57. Southwest wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers before 10am. Sunny, with a high near 71. North wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. Light northwest wind.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 76. Northeast wind between 6 and 11 mph.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 52.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 79.

Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 55.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 81.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
