Rain expected to continue on and off through Christmas in St. Lawrence County; temperatures could reach into 50s

Rain is expected to continue on and off today through Christmas before likely changing over to snow showers on Christmas night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

There is a 50 percent chance of rain for the rest of today with a high predicted around 42 degrees, TWS said.

Rain will likely start again after 10 p.m. tonight with patchy fog after 3 p.m., the service said.

Temperatures will rise overnight to around 48 degrees by 5 a.m. The chance of precipitation is reportedly 70 percent.

Highs will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s for most sports on Christmas Eve. and Christmas day, TWS said.

There may be periods of of moderate to brief heavy rain which is likely late Christmas Eve day into the evening. Gusty winds are also expected.

Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches combined with snowfall will cause poor drainage and possible minor river flooding Christmas Eve. night into Christmas day, the service said.

The forecast for the rest of the week is as follows:

Tonight Rain likely, mainly after 10pm. Patchy fog after 3am. Otherwise, cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 48 by 5am. East wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday Rain. Patchy fog before 8am. High near 49. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night Rain. Low around 43. East wind 6 to 16 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Christmas Day Showers, mainly before 11am. High near 44. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday Night A chance of snow showers before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. Breezy, with a west wind 13 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
