Rain, drizzle, maybe some snow for Christmas in St. Lawrnce County, weather service predicts

Conditions could soon become more slushy in St. Lawrence County, with higher than average temperatures today, tonight and Christmas Day.

There will be some rain, drizzle and maybe some snow with a high around 40 today, according to the National Weather Service.

It will be mostly cloudy tonight, maybe with some drizzle or freezing drizzle closer to the mountains, with a low around 20, the NWS predicts.

The forecast is for mostly sunny skies on Christmas Day with a high around 25.

Sunday night the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a low around 5.

Monday, a mix of snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain and gusty winds are possible across the county with a high of 40 to 45 degrees.

Monday night into Tuesday, the NWS expects rain possibly turning to snow with lows in the low 30s and highs in the mid 30s.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: Rain before 1pm, then a chance of drizzle between 1pm and 4pm. High near 41. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 22. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight.

• Christmas Day: Sunny, with a high near 25. North wind 6 to 10 mph.

• Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 5. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Monday: A chance of sleet before noon, then a chance of freezing rain between noon and 1pm, then rain likely after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 40. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

• Monday Night: Rain, mainly before 7pm, then a chance of showers after 1am. Low around 32. Southwest wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow showers before 1pm, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. West wind 14 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. West wind 6 to 13 mph.

• Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 26. West wind 3 to 6 mph.

• Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph after midnight.

• Thursday: Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 34. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

• Thursday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 23. South wind around 9 mph.

• Friday: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 28. West wind around 11 mph.
