Rain could mix with snow in St. Lawrence County overnight

Clouds will dominate the sky in St. Lawrence County through tomorrow as a low pressure system moves across the North Country today bringing rain and snow with it, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast is for widespread rain developing over the area this afternoon with snow at higher elevations beginning tonight, and rain transitioning to a snowy mix in the valleys Friday morning.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Adirondacks with accumulations of 2 to 5 inches expected in the higher elevations.

High temperatures today will be near 50 degrees and will drop to the mid-30s tonight, and are likely to stay there Friday.

Friday night we will see the coldest temperatures of the season as readings will fall into the teens in the mountains and mid-20s in the valleys as winds shift to the north, the NWS predicts.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of light rain in the afternoon, the NWS says.

The forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Rain likely, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 49. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Tonight: Rain. Low around 35. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Friday: Rain and snow, mainly before 4pm. High near 37. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

• Friday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 7pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 27. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

• Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 1pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 38. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Saturday Night: A chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 34. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

• Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. South wind around 7 mph.

• Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. South wind around 8 mph.

• Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. South wind around 7 mph.

• Veterans Day: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. South wind around 9 mph.

• Tuesday Night: A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

• Wednesday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 37. West wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
