Rain and snow are likely tonight in the North Country as low pressure moves through the area, but dry weather is expected Wednesday, followed by a potential snowstorm later this week just in time for Christmas.

According to the National Weather Service, a high-pressure system will return to the St. Lawrence Valley Wednesday, with mainly dry weather anticipated later in the day.

However, another storm system is expected to hit the county Friday, the National Weather Service says, leading to widespread precipitation Friday and over the weekend. Strong winds are possible Thursday night and Friday morning as the storm moves into the area.

Temperatures are expected to continue to be higher than normal for the season, but snow is expected over much of the later portion of the week and into the weekend, according to National Weather Service predictions.

Looking ahead to Christmas day, the last pre-Christmas snowfall is currently predicted to be Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to the service, so a snowy Christmas may be in store for St. Lawrence County.
