Rain and rising temps could result in rivers and streams in St. Lawrence Couny flooding, forecasters say

The combination of moderate rain tonight and snowmelt from mild temperatures will result in significant rises on most rivers and streams across the St. Lawrence Valley on Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The potential for flooding caused the NWS to issue a hazardous weather outlook for the region.

A few of the larger rivers are expected to crest near or just above flood stage late Friday and Friday night, NWS says. Although widespread flooding is not expected, normally

flood prone areas may be impacted.

Highs today will be near 50 with a 30 percent chance of showers, the service says. There is a 100 percent chance of rain overnight, mainly after 7 p.m., with a low around 37.

Friday will likely see more rain in the North Country with a 70 percent chance in the morning and ending around 3 p.m., NWS says.

The forecast through the middle of next week is as follows:

Friday

Rain likely before 8am, then showers likely, mainly between 8am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph.

Rain showers likely before midnight, then rain and snow showers likely between midnight and 1am, then snow showers likely after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Breezy, with a south wind 11 to 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

A 30 percent chance of snow showers before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 21 mph.
