POTSDAM -- The Center for Lifelong Education and Recreation at SUNY Potsdam is piloting a series of non-credit classes featuring various Qigong systems during the spring semester.
Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is a synergy of posture, breathing techniques, gentle movement and visualization, to gather, cleanse and circulate the body’s energy, or “qi.” Students in the new Qigong Sampler program can explore various styles, while learning how to deal with stress and develop more tranquility.
“The format for this semester really allows individuals to pick and choose what will work for them, based on their desired time commitment, budget and interests,” said Beth Todd, director of continuing education at SUNY Potsdam. “This also allows us to capitalize on the talents of Andrea Malik, who is a seasoned instructor and is looking forward to sharing the various styles available to try.”
Every class will begin with live flute music, along with a few minutes of meditation. Each class will end with self-massage or lying down Qigong.
Participants can register for one, some or all of the classes, which begin Monday, Jan. 23. To register or learn more, visit https://clear.potsdam.edu or call the CLEAR office at 267-2167.
