MASSENA -- The public is invited for a presentation on the Moving Massena Forward Coalition’s efforts on May 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room in the Massena Town Hall.
Mayor Tim Currier created the coalition in November 2015 after Alcoa announced plans to close the Massena smelter and get rid of 487 jobs. The company since received a state bailout and has pledged to remain through 2019.
The coalition has identified 10 priority areas to focus on. More details about that are here.
Currier’s statement said he hopes to see the interest in this project continue to grow.
“Many people provided us with valuable input during the initial stages and we hope we can continue to count on them, as well as attract interested newcomers as we change the way Massena develops itself,” he said in the release. “With the community development approach, we can develop strategies that can be implemented, see them work, measure their success and know that our time and effort improved our community.”
Other coalition members include Massena Central Superintendent Patrick Brady, Massena Chamber of Commerce director Nathan LaShomb, Massena Business Development Corporation director Tom Sullivan and Massena Councilman Tom Miller.
