MASSENA -- Two public meetings will be held Wednesday, May 4, to present information and answer questions about a proposal to replace the Route 37B Bridge (Parker Avenue Bridge) over the Grasse River in Massena.
The meetings, hosted by the state Department of Transportation, are set for 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 30 of Massena Town Hall, 60 Main St.
Work on the project is proposed to begin in the area of the Main and Maple Street intersection, would cross the Grasse River and end near the Parker Avenue and East Orvis Street intersection.
The DOT plan includes replacement with a new two-lane bridge, reconstructed or rehabilitated highway approaches, improved drainage and pedestrian facilities.
Officials will present five alignment alternatives for the project and seek input from individuals, groups, officials and local agencies on the alternatives.
Those alternatives include a possible roundabout as part of the highway portion of the project, and the possible relocation of the Grasse River Bridge.
DOT asks people who plan to attend to notify DOT if a sign language interpreter, assistive listening system or any other accommodations will be required to facilitate participation.
Project information can be obtained by writing to Michael McCullouch, P.E., Region 7 Design, NYS Department of Transportation, Dulles State Office Bldg., 317 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601, or by emailing mmccullouch@dot.state.ny.us.
