NORWOOD — Save The Fountain committee welcomes the community to celebrate the grand opening of Fountain Park June 8, at 6 p.m.
Save The Fountain was able to complete the wishes of the Norwood community in restoring the fountain and enhancing the grounds surrounding the fountain. With donor funds, the committee purchased memorial bricks, park benches, and flowering shrubbery with stone markers.
Due to the generosity of the community, the committee was also able to add stonework around the fountain, additional bricks to complete the memorial brick walkway, a welcome center with a registry book, historic information panels, reconstruction of the historic arbor, additional shrubbery, an updated solar light and solar sensors, a reconstructed design of the fountain pumps and a new flag.
The community has also been generous in volunteering their time and talent. Those who volunteered include:
• Kevin McAdoo, who has been with Save The Fountain originally through the Solar Ready Vet Program he Coordinated at Fort Drum, and now as a SUNY Canton consultant to SUNY Canton’s Sustainable Engineering Club
• Mike Tuper, SUNY Canton alumni and Sustainable Engineering Club President
• Tyler Willey, SUNY Canton Mechanical Engineering freshmen and member of the Computer and Design and Drafting Club
• Larry Ashley, Norwood BOCES Building Technology teacher and his students
• Nanci Collins, Norwood BOCES Welding teacher and her students
• Neighbors to the Fountain Park – Steve and Carol Tebo, Brian and Robin Wilkinson, and Billy and Paula Stone
• And committee members – Sue LaFay Maroney and Yvonne Jeanson
A reception will follow the ceremony.
