CANTON -- Public Health Director James O. Rich is no longer employed by St. Lawrence County.

A St. Lawrence County official confirmed Rich “separated from employment with the county,” but would not comment further on Rich’s departure.

Rich was earning a salary of $87,349. He did not resign from his post.

He was employed by the county from July 12, 2015 to Sept. 8, 2017. Rich was suspended from his duties from June 8, 2016 until August 2016.

Following that suspension, Rich was ordered to receive supervisory training. At that time it was also stated that Rich’s performance would be monitored to determine if progress was being made.

St. Lawrence County is already searching for a replacement.

The application deadline is Oct. 6 and the salary ranges from $77,878 to $95,506.

Prior to Rich’s employment, a series of people rotated through the director’s position.
