Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner joins Gouverneur Hospital

GOUVERNEUR – Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) Amanda Hance has joined the medical staff of St. Lawrence Health System’s Gouverneur Hospital in the Specialty Suite located in the hospital at 77 W. Barney St.

Hance earned her Masters of Science in Nursing at the State University of New York at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, and her Registered Nursing degree from Keuka College, Keuka Park.

Hance provides outpatient behavioral health, counseling, and psychotherapy to patients enrolled in Gouverneur Hospital’s detox program and by appointment through her office.

After a physical and mental health assessment with her patients, Hance determines a diagnosis and designs holistic treatment plan, and/or prescribes medications, depending on the need.

“I remind my patients that mental health conditions are treatable and individuals can return to a healthy lifestyle. However, it’s important that the patient and their family support outlets are wholly optimistic about recovery. Once an individual ‘wants’ and commits to a lifestyle change, it’s definitely achievable and less likely to end in relapse,” Hance said.
