Polls are open today from noon until 9 p.m. for Republican, Conservative and Independence party primary races to fill a variety of positions across St. Lawrence County.

No Democratic primary races are taking place, according to the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections.

St. Lawrence County

At the county level Steven M. Cary, June H. Wood and Kevin J. Crosby will compete for the Republican nod for coroner

Morristown

In Morristown, Russell B. Lawrence III challenges incumbent town supervisor Frank L. Putman in the Republican primary. In the race for town justice incumbent G. Thomas Bertrand Jr. seeks the Republican endorsement against Lisa J. Whitmarsh. Both Bertram and Whitmarsh are also seeking the Independence and Conservative party endorsements. In the town council race, incumbent WM. Howard Warren faces opposition from Michael L. Bogart and Shawn R. Macaulay in the Republican primary election.

Clare

In Clare, R. Todd Demers will challenge incumbent supervisor Francis W. Shapstene in the Republican primary race. In the highway superintendent race incumbent Paul B. Colton faces opposition from fellow Republicans Michael Johnson and Richard L. Hance.

Colton

In Colton, Justin Johnson challenges incumbent highway superintendent Kevin Hawley for the Republican candidacy. Candidates Harold Bush and Brion J. Stowe seek the Conservative Party endorsement in the highway superintendent race.

Waddington

In Waddington, Sandy Wright challenges incumbent town supervisor Mark Scott in the Republican race.

Edwards

In Edwards, Republicans Dianne L. Hurley, Rita F. Thornton and Stephen J. Taylor seek the Republican nod for the position of town councilor.

Fowler

In Fowler, Sherry L. Greer challenges incumbent assessor Timothy Greer for the Republican endorsement. In the race for town council incumbents Randy L. Durham and Ricky W. Newvine face challenges from Lynn E. Bishop and Dustin A. Fayette in the Republican primary race.

Gouverneur

In Gouverneur, William Chambers challenges incumbent Gouverneur Town Supervisor Robert R. Ritchie for the Republican endorsement. In the race for town councilor incumbents Eldon B. Conklin and Harold E. Lacey are seeking party support. Newcomer Michael Chambers also hopes for an endorsement in the primary race.

Russell

In Russell, town councilor Sandy Burnham competes with challengers Christopher Kelly, Michael G. White and Edward Whiteford in the Republican primary.
