About three hours after a brief but strong thunderstorm passed through the area, 1,636 National Grid electric customers lost power early today.

The storm swept through north-central St. Lawrence County at about 10 p.m.

Shortly after 1 a.m., first 298 customers in the Colton and Pierrepont area and then 1,338 customers in Potsdam and to the west were without power.

There were also small outages near Waddington and Hopkinton last night.

National Grid’s outage map show power to all those those customers has been restored, but two more small outages, affecting fewer than five customers each, near Winthrop and in the village of Potsdam, popped up this morning, but according to information on National Grid’s outage page, they expected power to be restored by this afternoon.
