POTSDAM – The pace of work at the village’s $3 million wastewater treatment plant project is picking up, according to Village Administrator Greg Thompson.
The main contractor, Blue Heron, a busy construction firm, is wrapping up for winter several other projects and has sent some of the workers there to Potsdam to help with the extensive work here, so some parts of the project are moving ahead more quickly, Thompson reported at Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting.
The groundbreaking for the work was this past spring. The job is expected to be complete by next spring.
Three contractors are doing the bulk of the work. Heron Construction Co. LLC, based in Virginia with an office in Jordan, N.Y., is general contractor; heating and ventilating contractor is Burns Bros. Contractors of Syracuse, with a Potsdam office; and Watson Electric of Norwood is handling electrical aspects of the job.
The wastewater treatment plant was built in 1970.
Many of the systems in the plant are outdated and in poor condition. Parts of it are 45 years old.
The last major upgrade was in 1997.
