POTSDAM -- The Maple Street canoe launch near the Maple Street bridge is closed for the season and demolition work on the bridge Monday will cause periodic traffic delays, according to the State Department of Transportation (DOT).
The canoe launch is closed due to proximity to the work site of bridge repairs.
Motorists should expect periodic stoppages throughout Monday and possibly into Tuesday morning. The traffic stoppages are necessary to allow cranes to remove the existing girders from the bridges., DOT said.
The Maple Street bridges are limited to one-way westbound traffic as the state State Department of Transportation works to rehabilitate the bridges.
A detour is in place directing approaching eastbound traffic to US Route 11 (Sandstone Drive) and then back to Market Street.
Traffic approaching the project from the east will utilize one lane of the Maple Street Bridges for the duration of the project.
DOT officials are urging drivers to use caution through every construction zone encountered during the construction season.
