POTSDAM -- The C.O.R.C. Thrift Store, 8 Willow St., is looking to move from their current location to provide more shopping space, better parking and become handicap accessible, according to store manage Andrea James.

“We are taking a leap of faith by putting our building on the market,” James said.

The store is hoping to move and James is asking anyone aware of or owning one-floor commercial space to contact them at 265-3940 to explore their options.

James said the thrift store has outgrown the building “by leaps and bounds” and they are in need of more space.

“We need a place for our recycling trailer, a drop bin as well as a larger shopping area that is more customer friendly, she said.

She said she hopes the potential move would help to solve an issue with wheelchair access. The current building is two stories and if the store moves she said they would prefer a one-story building. .

“The goal is for people to enjoy coming into the store and have more space to move around the shopping area,” James said.

The store is an independently run not-for-profit that was started over 35 years ago and is run by a small staff, community volunteers and an executive board that is made up of religious bodies and individuals from the Potsdam area. At the close of each year they donate their extra revenues to many community service agencies.

They offer a selection of used clothing and shoes for all ages as well as accessories, books, toys, linens, dishes and small household goods. The store accepts donations of good quality clothing, linens and household items. Items must be in clean, sellable condition.

“We want people to know we are not closing…just the opposite as we are hoping to grow,” she said.

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
