POTSDAM -- A Potsdam woman is dead under suspicious circumstances and a Potsdam man is under arrest, but he is not charged with her death.
Details are few and the investigation is incomplete, but Potsdam police say they were called to the Raquette Road area at 5:15 p.m. Friday and were led to Evergreen Park where Leslie Hinman, 49, was found dead in her apartment, according to a press release from Lt. Michael Ames.
Declaration of the cause of Hinman's death is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology report, the press release said.
Terrance L. Seymour, 40, of State Rt. 345, Potsdam is charged with first-degree criminal contempt for violation of a court order of protection at that location, but Hinman was not the protected party, police said.
Police said they determined that Seymour "had been present at the incident location with a person who was the protected party in a 'no contact' order of protection against him. The protected party was someone other than the deceased," the police statement said.
Seymour was reportedly held on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond following his arraignment before Potsdam Town Justice Mason.
"During the course of the investigation several subjects were interviewed and the scene was processed by investigators from the Potsdam Police Department with the assistance of the NYS Police and the Department of Homeland Security Investigations," the police statement said.
No further information was available as of Saturday afternoon.
