POTSDAM – The village Board of Trustees will meet in executive session tonight to discuss the list of five candidates they have for the next village administrator.
“I don’t know that the decision will be made tonight,” said Trustee Steve Warr. “This will be out first chance to talk about the interviews we did,” he said.
Each of the interviewees faced questions in separate sessions with all department heads, and then with two board members and then with the other two board members, with about an hour for each session, Warr said.
“We’ll see if we can come to a consensus tonight. It’s the mayor’s decision. But if we have a productive meeting tonight, I think we should have an offer on the table to one of the candidates by Wednesday,” Warr said.
The current village administrator, Everett Basford, has been waiting for his successor to be named so that he can get started familiarizing the new person with the job in Potsdam.
In July village government thought they might have someone in the position by Oct. 1.
Basford has not said publicly what his next plan is.
Basford has been mayor of Heuvelton, and was village administrator in Massena from 2002 to 2011.
