POTSDAM -- The Village of Potsdam will be picking two trustees from a field including two new candidates and an incumbent running on a third-party line, and the town will choose two councilors from among two democrats and a write-in candidate in this year’s election on Nov. 3.

Potsdam Town Supervisor Marie Regan is stepping down and retiring after long service in the public sector. Council member Rollin Beattie, a Democrat, is running for the top spot unopposed.

Democrats Rosemaria Rivezzi, incumbent, and Ann Martin Carvill are running for the two councilor seats, while Eric Matott, who finished third in the town Democratic caucus, is mounting a write-in campaign.

And Town Clerk Cindy Goliber, Republican, and Superintendent of Highway John Keleher, Democrat, face no opposition in this election.

In the Village of Potsdam, Mayor Steve Yurgartis is not running again, and former Mayor and current Trustee Ron Tischler is running for the top post again, so his trustee seat is open. Democrats Nick Sheehan and Jim Bunstone are running for the two trustee seats after some nominating maneuvers, while incumbent Democrat Eleanor Hopke is running to keep her seat after failing to be renominated by her party. Her name will be on the Sense in Government ballot line.
