POTSDAM – Town government will begin a survey of residents and businesses along State Rt. 56 north of the village to determine the amount of support for a plan to extend water and sewer service along that corridor.
“We want everything done by Oct. 1 because that’s when the new federal fiscal year starts,” said Supervisor Rollin Beattie.
The survey will specifically define interest, and examine current facilities to see if their capacity would be adequate to handle the extra loads.
“Then we decide if we want to go further, have hearings and talk about forming districts,” he said. A vote will be required to form the water and sewer districts. Only people along the route will vote on that.
By then the consultants, C2AE, will be able to provide information on what the cost for homeowners of the project will be.
Beattie said more information will be available from the engineers at the meeting set for Sept. 14. That is a day later than the usual second Tuesday meeting date, which was changed to accommodate the political primaries that will be held on the 13th.
The consultant will also have information on available grants for the program, which is estimated to cost at most a total of $6 million to $7 million.
