Potsdam town justice will seek fourth term

POTSDAM -- Potsdam Town Justice Samuel Charleson has announced that he will seek a fourth term this November.

“As I enter into my 13th year this April I cannot begin to thank everyone that has helped make the town court here in Potsdam such a remarkable pace to serve,” Charleson said in an email to North Country This Week.

The statement from Charleson said:

“We have a great team and a very supportive town board. The years have brought many changes. The most recent being the dissolution of the village court. Our group has worked tirelessly in not only handling the now doubled workload but also in dealing with thousands of cases inherited through the village court dissolution. I am proud to say that we have completely caught up with all previously pending matters in regards to old village cases. This would not have been possible without the help and cooperation of folks like Lori Queor at the Potsdam Village Offices and Marc Armstrong from Canton Town Court. They helped where they could every time we asked. I am so proud of the work out team has done during this transition.

“Additionally we have secured annual grant funding throughout the Office of Justice Court Support that has helped house of if not the nicest and most secure town courthouses; both inside and out with monitoring and recording capabilities. We also have both stationary and portable metal detection equipment and electronic keypad entry to critical areas. All of this equipment was purchased with grant funds secured by our team with no additional tax burden being placed upon our residents.

“Undoubtedly the next four years will present new challenges for Potsdam Town Court. I am confident that with your support we will be able to take on those challenges as we have for many years and continue to provide an unprecedented level of professional service for the residents of Potsdam and beyond. Please get to the polls in November! I look forward to and thank you for your support.”
