Potsdam Sunday schoolers raise money for 'Partners with Ethiopia'

POTSDAM -- The kids’ Sunday school class at New Hope Community Church is working with a grassroots nonprofit called Partners With Ethiopia in support of a boy and his family there.

A pair of kids in the class raised $100 for the program.

“We fund child sponsorship programs and income generating activities for widows in Ethiopia,” said Renee Stauffer of Nicholville.

“The kids have been very diligent in earning money by doing chores, making handmade cards to sell, or tithing part of their allowance toward Terefe’s support,” she said, referring to one of the children at the Dale Center of H.O.P.E.[img_assist|nid=184572|title=Terefe and his mom with staff in Ethiopia, receiving their new bedding.|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=300|height=223]

Two of the Sunday school kids, Alan and Katie Boswell, ran a successful lemonade stand this past summer in their front yard, raising $100 in just one day.

They decided to split it up and send half of the money for Terefe’s monthly support, and the other half for a family gift for Terefe.

Staff in Ethiopia met with Terefe and his family, and the family decided what they wanted most was a mattress and bedding. They took them to choose their new bedding and paid for it with the $50 Alan and Katie raised selling lemonade.

“We are so proud of these kids, and so thankful for their kindness and love for Terefe,” Staufer said.
