Potsdam storm damages plane at airport

A photo sent by Chris Collins shows a plane that was picked up off the ground damaging the plane’s wing.

POTSDAM – A storm knocked out power and damaged a plane and several structures in the Potsdam Tuesday as high winds and lightning hit the area.

The storm reportedly damaged and knocked down multiple trees and lightning lasted several hours throughout much of the North Country.

Power has since been restored to nearly 2,000 customers.

A total of 1,058 village National Grid customers and 290 customers in the Town of Potsdam lost electricity for a few hours.

Another 296 National Grid customers in Parishville and 276 in Stockholm were also without power.

Potsdam fire department member sand village police officers directed traffic at the corners of Elm and park, Park and Main and Main and Market streets, where traffic lights were not working.

The outage was the second one of the day in Potsdam. Much of central Potsdam suffered a power outage that lasted more than an hour shortly after 4 p.m.
