POTSDAM – People who see water flowing from fire hydrants in the village over the next week should not be alarmed, Village Administrator Greg Thompson says.
He says people have been calling his office over conern at seeing hydrants that seem to be leaking.
What’s happening is that pressure relief valves installed on the hydrants are doing their job as maintenance of the Clarkson Hill water tower has started.
“It’s a way to maintain constant pressure in water lines,” Thompson said.
The flow will prevent damage to homes, he said.
Thompson said tests have been conducted to be certain the newer water tower at Lowe’s Home Improvement on Rt. 56 North would suffice during the temporary shutdown of the older tower. Major water users, including the colleges, have been advised of the work.
