Potsdam resident charged with aggravated DWI after crashing into telephone police and fleeing the scene of the accident, police say

POTSDAM — A Potsdam resident was arrested after crashing into a telephone pole on Market Street while driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident, according to Potsdam police.

Somendra Pant, 63, was charged at 3:18 p.m. with aggravated DWI and leading the scene of a property-damage accident on Leroy Street at 3:18 p.m.

Police received a report of an erratic driver that had struck a telephone pole and had left the scene. The vehicle was located on Leroy Street and upon investigation it was determined that Pant was intoxicated.

Pant failed a series of field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of .21 percent, officers said.

The subject were cited and released on tickets returnable to Potsdam court Nov. 1.
