POTSDAM -- Thee Potsdam Junior Hockey Association Red Mites emerged victorious in its division at a mites tournament hosted by the PJHA Sunday, Feb. 8.
The tournament included 10 teams each for the red and white mite division.
The red mites finished first in its division after the round robin of play. The team played the North Franklin Shamrocks in the semi-finals and won. Next, the red mites faced the Chazy Flyers for the title. It was a close game, but the red mites were victorious with a score 3-2.
The white mites finished second in its division after the round robin and faced the Ogdensburg white mites in the semi-finals. The game was tied 2-2 after regulation time. It took two five-minute overtimes to settle the game with Potsdam earning a berth to the final. Potsdam had to face the Canton Bears in the final. Potsdam had lost to Canton during the round robin and was hoping for a more favorable result in the final. While the Potsdam team skated hard, they had to settle for second place in the white mite division as the Canton team won with a score of 4-2.
