POTSDAM -- The long-time Potsdam Recreation Department waterfront director will be helping out with the Village of Norwood’s beach lifeguard program this summer.
Michelle Garrow will “be spending half her time with us and half in Norwood,” said Potsdam Recreation Director Tim Carey. “We were approached by Norwood to help get their program in order there,” Carey said.
Garrow has overseen the lifeguards for the summer swimming programs at Potswood Park in Hannawa Falls and at Sandstone Park in Potsdam and been responsible for the swim lessons programs.
Last August, after a girl from Potsdam drowned in an accident at the beach on Norwood Lake, the beach was closed for more than a week while the village took stock of operations there.
On Aug. 9 last year, right-year-old Angelina Barrett was discovered submerged in about eight feet of water and not breathing. Efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful. The death was officially declared accidental.
