POTSDAM -- Potsdam police reported that a woman said she had fallen victim to a check-cashing scam in which she thought she was hired to be a nanny for a couple arriving shortly from overseas.
The woman said a check was sent to her to buy supplies and the extra money was to be sent back to the couple, officers said.
The check allegedly turned out to be fraudulent.
Police are reminding people that if unknown individuals are sending money in the form of a check and are asking for money to be sent back, it is likely a scam.
Anyone with information about this scam can contact the Potsdam Police Department at 265-2121.
