POTSDAM -- Potsdam police said they were notified by a village resident of two mailings he received which appear to be fraudulent.
The first, displaying a return address of "Award Notification Commission" claims that the recipient has been awarded a large sum of money, but in order to receive the payment he must first submit verification of his identity and a minor sum of money, officers said.
The second reportedly only displayed a return address of P.O. Box 9084 Clearwater, FL and indicates the recipient has been entered in a sweepstakes being conducted by the National Magazine Exchange.
Police said residents are reminded to be vigilant in protecting their personal information.
