POTSDAM – Potsdam Police are still waiting on results of a toxicology report of a Clarkson student who was killed by a train in October.

Shanith A. Samarasekera, 20, of Las Vegas, Nev. was believed to be struck by a train on the railroad trestle adjacent to Sandstone Drive where he was knocked into the water below.

Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department, the Potsdam Rescue Squad and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the scene to search for the body.

State police assisted with a helicopter during the search.

When the body was recovered police requested a toxicology report on the body, but have not yet received the final results.

Potsdam Police Chief Kevin Bates said he has received preliminary results, but is waiting for the final report before making them public.

Bates said he was reluctant to put a timeframe on when the final report would be available, but said he would release it once it is received.
