POTSDAM – Potsdam police said a woman allegedly under the influence of marijuana was ticketed for calling police claiming she was lost and then lying to them about making the phone call.

Lauren R. Corey, 18, Owego, was cited for second-degree obstructing governmental administration at 5:06 a.m., police said.

Corey was arrested following an incident that began when she contacted 911 reporting that she did not know where she was and needed help, according to patrols.

After being located, Corey led patrols to believe that there was actually a second female subject who had approached her somewhere on Elm Street asking for help, used the suspect’s cell phone to call 911, and was still in the area in need of assistance, police said

Patrols report that they searched for the second subject for a substantial amount of time and further investigation revealed that Corey was in fact the original caller.

Police said she had given a fictitious story about the second female due to the being under the influence of marijuana.
