POTSDAM -- The village police department responded to 1,841 incidents and made 284 arrests between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017.
At Monday Board of Trustees meeting, Police Chief Mark Murray reported on his statistical summary of police activity in the fourth quarter of last year.
Police responded to 30 domestic incidents, and brought six felony, 52 misdemeanor and 24 violation charges forward.
Among the 234 arrests were 10 driving while intoxicated charges and 90 charges related to motor vehicle accidents.
Murray said the number of incidents was down from the third quarter last year, but up from the fourth quarter of 2016.
He made note of one incident in particular, a “drug-related robbery in progress” on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 19 at Collegiate Village on Main Street where two suspects were caught fleeing the scene and another suspect, who was reportedly injured in the incident, were apprehended.
During the quarter, department personnel availed themselves of an assortment of training sessions, in defensive tactics, advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement, recertification in drug recognition expertise, instructor development, and a seminar in opioid investigations and prosecutions in overdose cases.
Chief Murray said he was working on a map of village parking areas denoting restrictions for snow removal, which will be available to village residents and students.
