POTSDAM — Two Potsdam police officers were treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital following a traffic stop that turned up MDMA, crack cocaine, concentrated cannabis and marijuana, police said.
The driver, Devin A. Newkirk, 37, Watertown, refused to comply with police orders and then tampered with physical evidence, police said.
Two officers were injured when they attempted to take Newkirk into custody.
The police officers were treated at CPH for undisclosed injuries.
A search of the vehicle turned up MDMA capsules, crack, concentrated cannabis and marijuana, officers said.
Newkirk was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony, tampering with physical evidence, felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, unlawful possession of marijuana and failure to turn as required, officers said.
He was arraigned before Judge Charleson and remanded to St. Lawrence County Jail without bail, police said.
Potsdam police were assisted by St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies and SUNY Potsdam University Police.
