POTSDAM -- Potsdam Police Chief Ed Tischler is retiring from the police force at the end of March to pursue an offer in the private sector elsewhere.
According to Village Administrator David Fenton, Tischler has been with the police department for 21- 1/2 years, moving into the chief's slot after John Kaplan retired in 2010.
Tischler is reportedly accepting a position in the private sector outside the area.
Tischler has been eligible to retire for a while, and is exercising the option as of March 31.
According to Fenton, the village Board of Trustees will begin looking for a new chief soon.
"Ed has been a dedicated member of our police department for a long time, and he's going to be missed by everyone. We wish him nothing but the best in his new career," Administrator Fenton said.
