Potsdam-Norwood Neighborhood Church and Meeting House adding morning worship service

After nearly a year of Sunday evening services, the Potsdam/Norwood Neighborhood Church and Meeting House is adding a morning service to its worship offerings starting Sunday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m.

“After close to a year of meeting on Sunday evenings, we’re excited about the addition of a morning service,” said Pastor Doug Buchanan. “Our goal is to reach those in need of a place to grow in their spiritual walk. We welcome seasoned Christians looking for a place to worship as well as anyone seeking to know more about Christianity and how our beliefs can and should be expressed in the modern world.”

Morning services will begin at 11 a.m. with a 10:30 a.m. cafe time. Already established evening services are continuing at 6:30 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. cafe time. During cafe time, pastries and snacks as well as coffee, tea and other drinks will be available. Cafe times are scheduled to give us time to share, talk, and pray together before and after the worship services.

The new church, located midway between Potsdam and Norwood on Route 56, is part of a recent movement that seeks a return to basics: a simpler model for the local Christian church that is informal and contemporary, while maintaining some traditional elements. The church has American Baptist roots, while expressing itself in presentation with a Jesus-centered, inter-denominational emphasis.

“The early church was simplistic and flexible,” Buchanan said, “and it sought authentic Christian faith that could be taught, expressed and encouraged in a tight spiritual community setting.”

PNC’s renovated church building is small, efficient and comfortable. There are café tables, couches, scattered and row seating available.

“Services are energetic and meaningful, with live music to encourage church community singing in worship and praise,” Buchanan said. “Teaching messages bring the Bible to a contemporary, practical level.”

The church emphasizes the gospel of Jesus Christ, authority of the Bible, and the application of God’s Word expressed to others in words and actions, not just on Sundays, but 24/7 in everyday lives.

There is room for up to 50 people in each service or gathering at Neighborhood Church.

“The casual setting and simplistic church approach can be appreciated by longtime believers or newcomers seeking to investigate Christian belief and lifestyle,” Buchanan said.

Brochures are available and pastors are willing to meet face-to-face with anyone requesting the opportunity to learn more about the new church.
