Potsdam, Norfolk men injured after van overturns in Stockholm near Knapps Station; investigation continues

STOCKHOLM – A Potsdam man was transferred to a Burlington, Vt., hospital for a fractured vertebrae Saturday after his vehicle went off the road, struck a tree and overturned.

St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies say Frank J. Kaiser, 36, of 5508 NYS Hwy. 56, lot 13, lost control of his vehicle on County Route 47 near Knapps Station when the accident occurred about 2 a.m.

The 2003 Dodge Caravan was traveling west when he left the right side of the road, then over-corrected, struck a tree and an earthen embankment, causing it to overturn, deputies said.

Kaiser and passenger Ray L. Bush, 31, of 52 West High St., Norfolk were transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Kaiser was then transferred to Burlington and Bush was admitted to CPH for facial injuries.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by state police and the West Stockholm and Norfolk fire departments.

Deputies referred to the the crash as a "DWI" accident and said the investigation is continuing.
