POTSDAM -- Village police say they arrested a Potsdam man and charged him with a litany of traffic offenses after he fled a traffic stop at a high rate of speed.
Shane F. Weller, 58, of Potsdam was charged with reckless driving, third-degree fleeing a police officer, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and more than a dozen traffic counts.
Police say he was pulled over on Feb. 4 around 9:17 p.m. and fled, with his speed reaching 70 mph in the village.
He got away and wasn't located until 7:40 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 9, with assistance from St. Lawrence County sheriff deputies.
He was taken into custody on Elm Street and released with appearance tickets for Potsdam Town Court on March 6.
Some of the traffic citations were for the Feb. 4 incident and some were issued when he was caught on Saturday, police said.
