Potsdam man nominated for NAMMY for flute album

POTSDAM -- Potsdam native Peter Phippen is a nominee in the “Native Heart” category of the 2017 Native American Music Awards (NAMMYs), for his album, “Solace - Tao of Nature Flutes.”

The album was co-produced by Peter (now residing in Eau Claire, Wisconsin) and Ivar Lunde, Jr., of Skyline Studios.

Released by Promotion Music Records, “Solace - Tao of Nature Flutes” consists of Peter’s solo work from the past two decades. “Solace" offers the best of Peter’s improvisational music. The songs on the album were recorded using antique and contemporary flutes from around the world, including the haunting Native American flute.

Peter has received numerous music award nominations over the years (including a GRAMMY), but has yet to win an individual award. When asked to comment on his most recent NAMMY nomination and the elusive individual win he said, “I’m very honored to be nominated,” and laughed as he admitted, “I’m always a bridesmaid and never a bride.”

The prestigious award ceremony is scheduled to be held Oct. 14, at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls.

Besides his individual NAMMY nomination this year, Peter played Michael Allen mid-19th century Mojave flute replicas and Geoffrey Ellis Bansuri flutes for Kelly Jackson's song, “Wake Up,” nominated for a 2017 NAMMY in the "Best Music Video Performance" category and "Best Single of the Year” category.

The voting is now open to the public. The website is www.nativeamericanmusicawards.com/vote-now.

Since 1993, Peter has performed concerts, workshops, artist residencies and assembly programs across the United States that are both educational and entertaining — a unique mix of the very old and the very new in music. Peter has shared the stage with R. Carlos Nakai, Coyote Oldman, and Xavier Quijas Yxayotl, to name a few nationally-known performers.

Peter's recordings have been aired on radio and television networks worldwide. “Solace - Tao of Nature Flutes” is available for download on over 30 music sites including iTunes and Spotify. The CD is available for purchase at www.promotionmusicrecords.com.
