GOUVERNEUR -- A Potsdam man wanted by St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office was charged with manufacturing meth following a shoplifting investigation, according to Gouverneur police.

On April 13, Gouverneur police officers investigated a shoplifting complaint from Kinney Drugs, 17 Clinton St., which they say had happened the day prior. Two male suspects allegedly took disposable gloves, disposable facemasks, a cold pack and aluminum foil, officers said.

The investigation led police to 51 William St., Apt. #4, where they charged an occupant wanted by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office on a county bench warrant, police said.

He violated the terms of his supervised release to probation on charges of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, police allege.

Gouverneur Police Department and the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force searched the residence on a warrant, with assistance of the Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team and state police. Several components known to be used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine were seized, according to police.

LaValley was charged with second-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, felony, due to a prior conviction of manufacturing methamphetamine in December. He was also charged with petit larceny stemming from the Kinney Drug incident, police said.

He was arraigned before Gouverneur Town Justice Stan Young and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail where he will await further arraignment in county court.

Police said their investigation continues.
