POTSDAM – A Potsdam man who had broken down an apartment door, was arrested, charged and released, is accused of first-degree rape after he allegedly forced his way into another apartment after his release early Sunday.
Chunlei Xing, 24, is held in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond for bail, after he arrested the second time.
He had been charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after police went at 12:50 a.m. Sunday to investigate a report of someone breaking into an apartment at Meadow East Apartments, off of Leroy Street. He was issued a ticket and released.
Apparently after his release, he returned Meacow East, broke forcibly entered another apartment and allegedly raped the occupant, according to village police.
Chunlei Xing is charged with first-degree rape, third-degree assault, second-degree burglary, and third-degree criminal mischief after allegedly forcibly entering the apartment at about 1:30 a.m.
He was arraigned by Potsdam Village Justice Pignone and was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.
