POTSDAM – A man hit by a train in the town of Potsdam Sunday night has severe injuries and has been flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.
Kevin P. Seig, 45, Pleasant Valley Road, was struck by a CSX train at about 10 p.m. just off the Sissonville Road, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies.
Sheriff’s detectives and deputies and the Potsdam Police Department went to the scene to find Steig on the railroad bed near the train, which had stopped.
Potsdam Rescue took Seig to Potsdam Airport from where he was flown by LifeNet helicopter to Syracuse with severe head and internal injuries. He was reported in critical condition.
How the accident happened is still under investigation. The train was at the scene for four hours while personnel were interviewed and evidence taken.
Also at the scene were the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department and New York State Police.
