POTSDAM -- Potsdam resident Don Mesibov is co-author of “Captivating Classes with Constructivism,” a book on strategies for dealing with the Common Core.
“New York is now endorsing constructivism as a theory to guide classroom instruction,” Mesibov said. “So a book that includes dozens of strategies for actively engaging students in tasks that help them learn should be particularly timely.”
Constructivism suggests that people learn best when they are actively engaging with the information taught or are challenged to utilize higher level thinking skills.
Mesibov is an adjunct professor in the education department at St. Lawrence University. He co-authored the book with Pat Flynn, R. Michael Smith, and Paul J. Vermette.
