POTSDAM — A Potsdam man was charged with trespassing for the third time this month following a report of a break-in July 18 at 6570 State Highway 56, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies said they responded to the report at 2:20 a.m. and obtained a detailed description of the suspect who had fled on food after being approached by the property owners.

Officers located a man a short distance away matching the description and was positively identified by the complainant.

Richard J. Olmstead, 59 was charged with second-degree criminal trespassing, officers said.

This is at least the fourth time Olmstead has been charged with trespassing this year and the third time this month. He was charged with trespassing in February and on July 13 and 18.

He was released on an appearance ticket returnable to court at a later date.

Deputies were assisted by state police and Potsdam police.
