POTSDAM -- A Potsdam man who allegedly left the scene of an accident early today has been charged with that and driving while intoxicated.

Village police said Mohamed R. Bourhouat, 24, tested at a blood alcohol level of .18 percent after he returned to the accident scene, a snowbank at the corner of Leroy and Cottage Streets.

Police received a call about a car in a snowbank at about 2 a.m. and went to investigate. There was no vehicle at the scene, but while police were there, they say, Bourhouat returned and appeared to be intoxicated.

Police allege Bourhouat was southbound on Leroy Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at Cottage Street and hit a snowbank on the south side of Cottage.

Bourhouat was issued summonses alleging aggravated driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, speed not reasonable and prudent, and failing to stop at a stop sign, and then released him.
